SEX SYMBOL: MAE WEST

"Is that a gun in your pocket or are you happy to see me?" - Mae West. This is one of many quotes by the All-American sex pot! A Brooklyn-bred actress, screen writer and Vaudeville performer, West extended boundaries, pushed sex appeal and fought for gay rights. She offended many and often felt the repercussions of opposition. She was once sentenced to 10 days in jail for moral persecution on Roosevelt Island and upon completion of her sentence, West took the warden and his wife out to dinner, later bragging that she wore silk underwear while awaiting her release.

We need more Mae Wests' in the world, people that fight for what they believe in and never give in to the ways of society and what society deems as right. Her legacy lives on and has inspired many, including artists, such as Salvador Dali, whom recreated a magnificent painting of Mae West, which is featured below. In 1980, West passed, but the legacy lives on. I am totally inspired by women like this and I hope you are too:-)

REMEMBER RIVER?

River Phoenix was not only an amazing actor, but a trend setter, an activist and a talented musician that played with Flea and other members of The Red Hot Chili Peppers. In fact, a few of the RHCP songs were dedicated to River after his death...He died outside of The Viper Room, a club in LA owned by (at the time) Johnny Depp. River was just about to start taking more provocative roles, voicing his excitement over upcoming racy portrayals of gay men, when he collapsed in 1993 due to a heart attack induced by a drug overdose. One of the best movies River worked on was Gus Van Sant's, My Own Private Idaho. He also starred along one of my favorite actors of all time, Sydney Poitier, in Sneakers.

The Phoenix family is super talented and River's sister, Summer, has a cool little shop on the LES called Some Odd Rubies. It is so popular that one just opened up in LA. This mini photo collection is dedicated to this late great...I think I'm gonna watch Sneakers tonight!

P.S. I want that Bob Marley shirt!

GUESS WHO??

I need to start writing more instead of posting lame ass videos b/c I'm too lazy to write! Maybe if I had a day off from WORKKKK I could post some cool shit more often:-) Although the music I be posting is dopeness on a whole other level, I could use more effort, so thought I would challenge you to a little game. This is a street style game. The object is to guess where these lovely ladies are from. I searched high and low for perfect pics representing cities I love...Well, there is one city represented that I haven't been to, but I know I would adore:-) There is one really easy guess on here too but the other three might be a bit more challenging. The winner gets a big, wet KISS from moi!!! Ooh la la! Hit me up with your answers pimps and pushers!

GOLD DIGGER

Yo, if you love me, which I hope you do, buy me some of these joints! I want, I want, I want. Last year I tried to score the last pair of Jeremy Scott Wings from the flagship Adidas store on Wooster, but some rude bitch stole them from right under me...I nearly went bananas but crept up on another pair of alligator skinned J.S. for Adidas instead. Now I've been scouring the internet trying to find these jump offs to no avail. Please, please, please, if you know where they are in size 7.5 mens, hit me up! Check, check, check these dope sneaks out...I wanna rock them!

Ok, if I can't get my little hands on the Jeremy Scott Adidas Wings, I will settle for these jump offs. Check out the punk themed metal studs from the 2008 Nike Hard N' Heavy Collection. I can't find them anywhere but am thinking of just implementing some studs on the sneakers I already have...although I tried that with a denim vest and every last one of those joints fell off...I suck at shit like that (anything tedious in nature)! Please, please, please, if you love me, find me these...

Alright, since gold digging is my thing and gold sneakers rock out with their cock out, the last pair that I could get by with would be the SBTG x Lazy All In The Family Customs by Nike. Both artists, you can find the SBTG and Lazy tag adorned on these dope sneakers. Girls look super fresh rocking it in high tops, leggings and over-sized vintage tees with loads of chains. Forget the pumps, opt for these dope sneakers instead...

SWAP AND SHOP IN CROOKLYN

This is the coolest idea ever...so cool in fact that over 1,000 peeps attend these jump offs. Here's how it works. Peeps bring their old clothes, music, books, etc, to the event and drop them at the door. Volunteers sort and distribute these items to themed departments where professional curators organize them into boutique-like displays. Attendees of the event then have the option to browse each department and take as much as they can carry! Meanwhile, DJs spin some dope beats, artists silkscreen custom tote bags and tees and fashion photographers take pics of stylish “scored” outfits. Hence the name Score Pop Up Swap. Check out www.scorepopupswap.com for more dets on the next swap. Bring $3 for the door beotches!

MELODY EHSANI: JEWELRY FOR TOUGH BITCHES

Melody Ehsani is an LA-based shoe and accessory designer that decided to skip out on the prestige of law school and follow her heart, which led her to design! Pardon My French loves independent designers and tries to shout out people you may not know, but should. This girl keeps it real with dope "fuck you" earrings, pistol necklaces, parrot earrings and love/hate rings. I want all of her pieces and I want them NOW! Her tranny-inspired shoes will keep you coming back for more. I hate pink, but must admit that the Asjaj for $150 are off the hook. I'm obsessed with shoes that combine leather with gold and silver chains so these joints are totally fresh. Check out her website at www.melodyehsani.com. Keep it realllllllllll!

STYLE LIKE U

It is rare in this fashion obsessed age to find a fashion obsessed blog that actually gets to the true heart of what fashion should be and where it should come from, that being personal style. I was thumbing through Paper Mag, one of my favs on the market and was reading from their "social networking issue," and found this great article about www.stylelikeu.com. Broaching upon the website, I found a very interesting philosophy which embodies a mother/daughter team and surrounds their mutual fascination with individuality and personal style. Elisa Goodkind and daughter, Lily Mandelbaum have provided us an accessible gallery of articles, pictures and videos of people that will never dawn the cover of Vogue but encompass what we are missing in fashion; what fashion should represent. Stylelikeu allows us into the homes of these unique individuals, gaining knowledge from their own personal insight. Maybe a new inspiration can be born from this innovative approach. It is trendspotting at your fingertips with no hidden costs attached. We should all take advantage of this site.

BANANAS FOR BRUCE LEE

Don't know if anyone else is as bananas for Bruce Lee as I am but here are some pics of the hot karate stud from back in the day. He was kick ass with his karate chops and kung fu kicks. I loved that shit. I loved it so much as a kid that I forced my mom and dad to enroll me in karate. I was pretty good but it got in the way of all my sporting endeavors so I had to quit. I'm pretty sure I could have beat the shit out of someone if I would have stuck with it...j/k! I've always wanted the limited edition Bruce Lee dvd set but still haven't received it yet. I've seen all of the movies and since this blog is about cool shit and not about just fashion...cuz we know that can get ultra boring and annoying...I thought I'd give a big shout out to beloved Bruce. Bruce is my homeboy! I want that shirt!

MY TRAVELS

For the past month I have really been incognito. I rarely blog! The reason being...moving back to the crazy city of NYC where I now have to work four jobs just to pay my bills. I have a personal training business, work at a restaurant, work for a fashion company, personal train more clients at a private gym and try to create buzz surrounding my own fashion label. With that said, I have rarely had any time to focus on my own brand but have been lucky enough to get my shit in two more stores in NYC. You can find my first collection at Fast Life on the LES as well as my Fall 2010 collection at Coat of Arms, also on the LES.
To racap my last few months of non-existence, this post is dedicated to fond memories of travel with a special someone as well as goodbye parties and NYC adventures. I am not one to self promote myself and rarely like to post pics of me on my blog but decided to do so in this posting b/c one of my greatest joys in life is travel and these pics represent me in my element. Enjoy!
